Top 5 reasons your business needs to have a website.

September 24, 2016

1. Let customers find you

As often is the case the first thing a person does when looking for a product or service is ‘google it’. The lack of an online presence and no website would mean the potential customer would go elsewhere, this statement alone demonstrates the importance and power of a website for your business, however it is important to also understand the need for a good, well developed website.

Google loves well developed websites, so much so that Google actually places these websites higher within the search results. This is where business owners often make the mistake, whether it be down to a lack of understanding on SEO or the lack of a website development budget, they often fall into to the trap of using cheap and easy online site builders such as wix, but be assured the chances of one of these websites ranking higher than a website developed by a professional website developer who knows what they’re doing ‘cough, cough’ is very unlikely.

2. Very low running costs.

After the initial website build, running costs are but a fraction of what it costs to have a place of business such as a stop or office. To put into context, to keep a website live will cost between than £150-£300 per year, in comparison to a business place that require the payments of bills such as; rent, wages, utility bills, maintenance bills etc.
The yearly payments cover website hosting and a renewal of your domain name. Now don’t get me wrong the yearly price can differ if you have a very expensive and rare domain name, or if you have dedicated server hosting, but on average a company will charge around £200 per year to keep your website live.

3. Business recognition and professionalism.

Having a well-made, well designed, content rich, informative website can elevate your business to where it needs to be and can be the difference between you and your competition.

A website is often the first point of reference between a customer and a business so its imperative that a good impression is made. Personally if I am looking for a service online, I choose a company that has a good website and is listed higher in Google. Now this could be down to the fact I’m a website developer but the way I see it if a company has invested time and money in developing and maintaining a great website then their quality of service and work is likely to be of the same caliber.

4. Open all day everyday.

One important benefit a website offers is the fact its open for the customer 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

These opening hours lead to increased revenue and an increase in customer satisfaction, so who can argue with that. To further justify the benefit having a website 24-7 means other costs such as utilities and staff wages do not need to be accounted for as the website will run itself (so long as its developed properly).

5. Increase your business value.

I know its not a business owners aspiration to sell their business but it is good to know the addition of website that works well and ranks high in google can add serious value.

Its crazy to think that now in 2016 there are still thousands upon thousands of business and companies who don’t have a  website. Hopefully this blog post has assisted in justifying why businesses need websites. To cap off, dont underestimate the importance of a well developed website,  & dont fall into the website template grave yard of which millions of businesses already live.
